Oompa Loompa Doo-Pa-Dee-Doo!

Our Miss M loves singing and theatre. I've always found it interesting that she loves to perform but she doesn't really have a "look at me", attention-seeking personality. Whether it's singing or dancing or playing the violin or piano, she focuses on all the details and technical aspects and practices until she's sure she has them mastered, at which point she confidently goes out on the stage and just shines!

You may recall her roles in The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and The Sound of Music. We really loved our little community Children’s Theatre and those shows were such a great experience for her! Sadly, no one jumped in to head it up when Miss Jackie retired last year.

Thankfully, the girls' school has an excellent fine arts program and M was finally old enough to participate in their drama/musical theatre productions. Over the summer, she auditioned for a role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Her first official school play! M was one of only a few third graders selected to be an Oompa Loompa! It wasn't a high-pressured part, which made it easy for her to relax and have fun making memories with her school friends.
The Oompas were so excited about the colorful costumes, makeup and hairdos.
M loved being one of the “drama kids” and getting to know a bunch of new friends in other grades that were also participating in the show.
The Willy Wonka cast practiced so hard over the first few months of school. And just about the time I got the hang of the practice schedule (a story in itself!), it was SHOW TIME!

The three nights of shows and one matinee were all fantastic! Great acting, singing, stage sets, lighting, sound. Lots of talented kids! Lots of proud parents and families!
My beautiful Oompa Loompa girl!
I wonder how long her hair will have a tinge of reddish-pink in it?
And I wonder if Cheer Up, Charlie, Pure Imagination, and I Want It Now will ever stop playing in my brain? Our family has been been working lines from the play into our conversations and randomly belting out verses from the musical numbers for days—-and every time someone sings a line, someone else will say “I was just singing that SAME song in MY head!” SO funny. And you can imagine how hilarious it is to overhear K walking through the house singing the Oompa Loompa song to herself. We can't get Wonka out of our heads!
