I decided to make our blog private.
I’m going to miss seeing the little dots on my visitor map showing me the locations of people all over the world stopping by every day. But I’m NOT going to miss those middle-of-the-night heebie-jeebies when I wake up wondering whether any of them were perverts or stalkers or similar creepy-type individuals.
I’ve enjoyed having a place to post favorite pictures, record cute things our kids say and journal about our travels and daily life. I’ve been using this blog for those purposes for nearly 5 years. And I want to keep doing it, but I also want to protect my children’s privacy. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but the more prevalent social media becomes, the more value I'm starting to see in maintaining a degree of mystery as far as the outside world is concerned. In making sure our home is a safe and sacred place. In being the guardian of all of my children's stories and giving them a voice in what information I share about them. In saving our stories for heart-to-heart, face-to-face conversations or hand-written letters on pretty stationary.
So this space will now be for my family’s eyes only. Maybe I'll give access to a few close friends. But mostly I'm just going to blog for my children. It’s my dream to fill their childhood with lots of love, lots of laughter, and lots of adventures. I pray it’s a time of innocence, magic, wonder and security. I hope to capture that in my posts. And I pray that when they one day look through the archives, this journal will bring back many happy memories.
Mary Nanette, Amelia, Kiya, Hyppolite Max and Jobson—you are my life.
