First Birthday

Today's your first birthday, J.

And you’re there and we’re here.

And my heart needs a band-aid.

I was looking at my calendar this morning. This day last year was a Thursday. The next Monday I’d be starting a new job.  I’d taken the week off to rest and recharge before jumping into a new phase of my career. I remember spring cleaning the house and organizing our pantry and planning what I’d wear each day of the next week. Little did I know that on that day, in a tiny hut in Haiti, a woman was giving birth to a baby boy.  And that baby boy would be my son.  I am so grateful to God for bringing you—and her—into my life. While none of us knew how our paths would cross, God did. The losses and disappointments and complications of life don’t always make sense to us. But we know God loves us and we know He is good. The angels rejoiced when you were born and God has great plans for your life.  It will be an honor and privilege for me to be a part of it. You, precious little one, are so special and so loved!
