A few months ago, Mr. B was offered an opportunity to join a team of like-minded individuals on a vision trip to learn more about some of the people and organizations making a difference in Rwanda. Mr. B and his team will be spending the next couple of weeks working with them, learning about what they do, what they need, and how we might be more involved in supporting them in the future. His schedule includes working with a street boys ministry to organize a soccer tournament, setting up computer labs in a couple of schools, and making needed repairs and improvements to several different orphanages and group homes. He will also be spending a day with Eric, the young man we sponsor through Compassion International—we are so excited and thankful that Compassion has helped to coordinate that visit, which is sure to be a highlight of the trip!
Over the past week, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and family members who have given donations for the organizations, schools and orphanages he will be working with. Mr. B narrowed his stuff to fit into one little carry-on, his other carry-on contained a laptop and other computer equipment to be donated, and his entire 100 pound checked baggage allowance consisted of two large rubbermaid tubs stuffed full of donations (and a backpack of goodies I packed for Eric)! In addition to the in-kind donations, several friends surprised us with cash donations. That money will be used by Mr. B’s team to purchase certain necessities (like insecticide treated mosquito nets, beans, rice and building supplies) in-country where the prices are lower and the money can be stretched further. If any of you are reading this, please know that you have truly blessed our socks off—we are in awe of your giving spirits and generous hearts at a time when we know so many of you are watching your spending and struggling financially. It means so much to us that you "get" what Mr. B is doing and that you've been willing to invest in something so close to our hearts. Your gifts will mean even more to their ultimate recipients.
Please keep Mr. B in your prayers as he travels. I’m hoping he will be able to send updates and some pictures during his trip and will be sure to post anything I receive.
How awesome! PRAYING!
