Melkam Genna!

Today is Ethiopian Christmas!

We have been celebrating since Saturday, when our local Ethiopian adoptive families network hosted a Genna gathering at the Nile Ethiopian Restaurant.

Our girls were excited to wear new traditional dresses I brought back from my trip to Ethiopia in October.

We enjoyed catching up with the K family and are so thankful to have them living so close to us now. My friend L (who traveled with me in October) was in town on vacation and was able to join us with her sweet daughter as well.

The food was yummy and the fellowship was great.
After lunch, we headed to the Magic Kingdom, where we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the New Fantasyland and watching the Main Street Electrical Parade.

Tonight we'll read the Jesus Storybook Bible Christmas story again, talk about Ethiopia and have a quiet family night at home. We’ll celebrate and “chillax”, as Miss M likes to say. Today is the last day of Christmas vacation. Tomorrow, it’s back to school and the 'ol routine--early mornings, lunchboxes, backpacks, uniforms, homework and agendas.

On an unrelated note, I decided to start a new project for 2013—to try to take at least one picture or short video a day of our family—then, at the end of the year, to have 365 pictures and videos to compile into a “year in review” video. I feel like I do a pretty good job of capturing the highlights on this blog (except that I’m so far behind lately!), but I really want a fun way to document our ordinary, day-to-day daily life. I think something like that would be priceless years from now, especially if we can keep it up and do one every year.

    1. Thanks, Sophie! That's so interesting about your grandmother--does she practice an Orthodox faith? I love learning about other cultures and traditions. One of my favorite things about international adoption is being able to weave our children's birth culture traditions into our family's traditions.
      Thanks for stopping by!
